It's not uncommon. Many of us have done it. It's usually given or offered as protection to help avert damage.
In some situations there is still time to heed the warnings, others it's too late.
For myself I've fallen in the advise taken column but not always. I consider those decisions as very educational because I could have avoided fuck*ing up a situation had I only taken the advise given!
